Excitement

Today we visited another village in the forest, this time a Dayak village in the hills of West Kalimantan. We went to meet a man who has been growing trees in his back yard since the 1980s. He knows everything about germinating, growing and planting trees and is going to become involved in doing this for threatened species. His three children were very sweet and throughout our meeting were singing and doing yoga poses in the corner of the room to get our attention.

This picture was taken during our tour of the tree nursery, which is on his land at the edge of the forest. The source of all this excitement was the discovery of a durian fruit high up on this tree. Anybody who has smelled a durian will possibly not understand why anybody is this excited but apparently it is delicious. Anyway, the excitement was actually due to the fact that fruiting season for durian is not until February, so this one was an unexpected treat (not for me...)
