The Road Less Travelled
I'm getting a sense of deja vue, but once again we were thwarted by that tricky June snow.
Our first route today was blocked by this blip, so we tried an earlier turn off which turned out to be a forest track that went up, and up, and up until there was three feet of snow on one side of the car, and a 300 ft drop on the other side. We gave up when the road was more snow than gravel, and it was snowing heavily. After a quick stop for inevitable snowman making by the junior members of the team, the grown up members were getting increasingly nervous about our provisions (2 peaches, 6 oreos and, critically, no chocolates) and thought it was time for an audacious 3 point turn (well, more like 15 point given the narrowness of the road) and a cowardly retreat.
At lower altitudes it was just pouring with rain so we headed for the coast via Eugene for a stop at the most amazing chocolate shop. It may sound weird to go out of your way for chocolate, but these are amazing. It's Euphoria Chocolates at Wilamette and 17th, in case you're ever passing. These chocolates may change your life. Especially the raspberry truffle....
