Day fifty-one: when you know
Today was a lovely fall day. After a much needed nap, I went outside to enjoy the day with my dogs.
I bought Eponine (the smaller dog) as a companion for Fantine, who has terrible separation anxiety. Eponine, whose foster name was "Katie" and completely did not fit her personality, is keenly aware of Fantine. She often chooses to sit down right next to Fantine. One of the vet students commented once that it is like she knows why I got her. ... to keep Fantine company.
E and F are their own little pack. They keep each other company and often keep me entertained :)
Eponine was the fourth dog I fostered. Both Fantine and I liked our first foster dog, but Samson is a Rottie mix and was just going to be too big for an apartment. I cried when I dropped him back off at the Humane Society, and even though it was a difficult decision, it was absolutely the right choice. He and another dog were adopted by a family and both have acres of land to run on together. :)
The other two fosters were not a good fit for Fantine or me. I tried with "Katie" and quickly, she became a member of my family. Now, a year and a half later, it is hard to imagine not having both E and F together...they are like peas and carrots.
Sometimes, you just know. Listening to your intuition, following your heart, and not settling are all parts of wholeness.
