building 50

this was the central building for an expansive state mental hospital here in traverse city. a beautiful place built in the late 1800s, the buildings and grounds were left somewhat abandoned when the hospital closed over twenty years ago.

these past years have brought incredible change to the grounds. renovation of the buildings followed by a repurposing of the space. this central building is now full of shops, restaurants and businesses, home to an indoor farmers market during the colder months, and a place of gathering for many. other buildings house apartments and other housing options. an incredible brick oven bakery. a great local coffee roasting company. the office of the organization i now work with (including historic barns and our very own farm!). and so much more! like expansive grounds just waiting to be explored.

just one of many little pockets of joy this town has up its sleeves!
