Which direction?

So after a dawn start to see Palmyra it was time to head to the capital. More road blocks and checking as the capital is set up with snipers overlooking the roads in to make sure the trouble doesn't spread. Spent last night chatting to the guy in the hotel who told that 50 people had been killed in the past two days in Homs and that nw Eid has started it wasn't expected to get much better.
On the trip to Damascus however all the people were really friendly. Watched the lambs being sacrificed for the start of Eid and hung out in the hair dressers for the evening while the Aussies got a trim. Chatting to the locals there is a feeling in the air that something is going to change. The people are not sure what will happen next but are seeing the killings on TV and certainly don't support the actions.
This sign was just after we had been steered away from Homs by the army. Certainly Iraq sounds a lots safer at the minute.
