Betty's Windows
Back blipped for 12.11.11
Official visits over, it was time to begin the 'pottering home' phase of the autumn break.
So it was up the M1, follow the sat-nav round Bradford and up to Ilkley, where we stopped for lunch in the world-famous Betty's Tea Rooms. (We couldn't help comparing Betty's with Le Chartier in Paris, both popular with tourists but the latter now an elegant fast-food restaurant whereas the former anything but fast but quite as elegant). As I've said before, I do like coloured glass so liked these windows in Betty's, a series of floral roundels and swags, shame it was too busy to photograph them all.
Then it was off to find our B&B, up to Grassington, the sat-nav lady patiently telling us to 'turn around when possible' for most of the way. It was there that Mr Flum finally realised that we were actually staying in Gargrave and the sat-nav was quite correct.
We checked in, then, having had a brief rest and a cuppa, made our way back to Ilkley to the church of St Margaret's for a concert by Cantores Olicanae with a varied programme of choir and organ followed by The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins, performed to a full house. Entrancing.
