Mossy shelter
Although most leaves have fallen now they are still looking fairly fresh underfoot, despite the damp conditions, and are lighting up the woodland paths exceptionally well during these grey days. Many of the trees have extensive areas covered in moss due to the very damp conditions in this wood. The moss covered trunks tend to go unnoticed when the trees are in their full foliage but now they are brought into sharp focus by the wonderful autumnal leaf litter at their bases. I particularly liked the composition of this small pile which had gathered next to the lovely soft green trunk of a beech tree.
