Out of Darkness #12
I got a bit of constructive feedback on this series from Susie last night. She wondered how long I was going to keep doing these because they were basically just photos of shop fronts. It's a fair point.
I could have spouted forth about the urban mise-en-scène and how the shops are reminiscent of stages lit up by the spotlights of commercialism. I could have pointed out the metaphoric series title and how it makes comment on the struggle of retail businesses during this economic downturn and their optimistic journey towards the light that is the festive sales boom. I could have explained how the choice to produce monochromatic images heightens the concept of darkness and light.
I could have said all that; but I didn't. I quietly agreed and promised to do better.
So here is a door.
(For the most part I'd have been lying anyway; I am a Bachelor of Arts after all.)
Actually, joking aside (yes I was joking; but not about the BA bit, I do have a BA) she made a decent point and I had questioned myself as to how long I'd keep this going. The answer is I don't know; I'm struggling to find time when it's light to go and take photos. Must try harder.
