Mermaid

1. With hangover and gloom beginning to lift, I make my way to Ellis' 4th birthday party. I head first to their house where the mermaid costume is inspected. There's a moment of discussion as to whether it is in fact sparkly enough. The upshot, I think, is yes. Yes it is sparkly enough.

2. To a church hall filled with what seems to be 250 four year olds and about 8 weary looking parents. I hear one ask if there's wine. There isn't.

3. There are hotdogs though. And cake. This lovely, lovely homemade cake.

4. With not a great deal in common with the range of other guests, I sit with Frankie for most of the time. She gives good cuddle.

5. Home for a proper meal. The first in a long time.
