Valuable Books

Professor Duncan Thorburn Burns (QUB), who had given the Friday evening lecture, very kindly allowed the Lismore Heritage Centre to display some of his very valuable collection of Boyle's seminal publications. Our picture is a general view of the display case...

... but here is the Sceptical Chemist, which is regarded by some as marking the end of alchemy (it didn't, but it was a most significant stepping stone to modern chemistry).

We stayed at The Ballyrafter House Hotel, which had been a lodge of the castle. This is where the dancing and drinking festivities of Saturday evening had taken place.

Lismore is a very interesting city (but quite small for a "city"!). This photograph shows the Heritage Centre, from where the Robert Boyke Festival had been organised, and where some of the events were held.

There is a Burne-Jones window, with a beezle in St Carthage's Anglican Cathedral.

And there is a fascinating Ice House in the Millennium Park.

The day and the Festival were rounded off with a fine firework display in the Park

Here is a complete set of my photographs from the visit for anyone interested.
