Paris, unlike many British cities, seems content to leave these "unimproved" shop frontages as a slightly decaying reminder of an earlier age. There is such a variety of interesting speciality shops, independently run and without any affiliation to boring chains.

Canal St Martin

a quiet and lovely, but somewhat melancholy, reminder of a time when this canal was a major thoroughfare. We love walking along these towpaths.
