Starling Light, Starling Bright
I had to do some serious driving today. 35 miles down..50 miles back..then 50 miles down..and 35 miles home. 170 miles for 2 round-trips.
I had a couple of hours to waste, so I went grocery shopping, and then to Wild Birds Unlimited. I would have loved to buy 3 or 4 things in the store..but they are too expensive for me. I was looking for a plastic birdbath that I could fill on a daily basis. No go. Everything is pottery or glass, and the cheapest one was $89.99. I settled on snapping a few pictures of the gold-finches that frequent their side yard.
On the way home from the doctors house..I noticed all the starlings. A quick U-turn, and a park and walk. I've never noticed until this year how weird starlings are. Hundreds of birds in a swarm..then onto the wires. Over to a grassy field..then back to the wires. Don't they know how to relax?
The telephone poles were across the street from a huge landfill. The swarm shot was taken over the dump. The starlings were sharing the air space with hundreds of sea-gulls. There was a lot of cackling going on, but I could only make out one loud comment. "It could be a lot worse..kids. We could be turkeys."
Happy Thanksgiving to all. I hope everybody has a wonderful day.
