"Merry Thanksgiving"

is how one student greeted me this morning.

The tradition of staying up late to cook the night before and getting up early to cook some more is alive and well in Thanksgiving-celebrating homes in Thailand too. I finished cooking the pumpkin late last night, then made the crust and baked the pie early this morning. About 40 foreigners and Thais enjoyed this traditional Thanksgiving feast for lunch.

In the afternoon, English class gave us a great opportunity to talk about the holiday (and eat pumpkin pie!) Most students didn't know much at all about the history or how it is celebrated.

English class taught me something interesting today too. In Thai, "Thanksgiving Day" is translated "Thank God Day."
