Top Trump.
We both had the day off work today, so we went to Chiswick to do some Christmas shopping, which, thrillingly, included my Lovely Other Half's gift to me! (I'll blip it after it's been delivered!)
Artist William Hogarth moved to Chiswick in 1749, the sales success of prints of his works with moral themes enabling him to afford to enlarge his home here, & use it to entertain family, friends & abandoned children from the Foundling Hospital, where he was a governor.
This statue of him & his dog, Trump, was unveiled in 2001, by Ian Hislop & David Hockney.
Gin Lane depicting the perceived evils of that drink, is one of Hogarth's best known works, but I prefer Beer Street which celebrates the healthy, happy lives of ale drinkers, & where only the Pawn Broker is struggling!
