Sweet Jayne.
If you had asked me who officially opened the Chiswick flyover, I probably wouldn't have guessed Hollywood sex-bomb Jayne Mansfield, but it was indeed she, clad in a skin-tight crimson dress & using gold scissors, who cut the ribbon in 1959. She declared it "a sweet little flyover".
When celebrations were planned to mark the its 50th anniversary it was hoped that Mansfield's daughter Mariska Hargitay ,of TV's "Law & Order" would attend, & it seems when she saw photos of her mother's great moment she was genuinely keen, but unable to do so.
Instead, local resident Imogen Stubbs stepped into the breach & unveiled a sign bearing Mansfield's words.
"I'm not exactly the natural successor to Jayne Mansfield. I think they asked me because, like the flyover, I'm homely and getting on a bit." quipped Stubbs.
