Sahara Sunrise
One of the things that I was most looking forward to about my trip was a night in a Bedouin camp in the Sahara desert. I was absolutely not disappointed.
The journey into the desert was by camel, and we set off in the early evening in order to ride through the sunset and into a starry sky. I won;t go into too much detail about the camel ride, as it holds a few tender memories for me and my bottom, but suffice to say that any mild pain couldn't detract from the experience.
The camp was basic, but very cosy, with a hot tagine dinner, some Moroccan wine and then a small concert from the locals around the campfire. We then dragged our mattresses out of our tents and one by one fell asleep under the stars. Perfect.
In the morning, the sound of cockerels woke us just in time for the sunrise. Thank you, my poultry frineds - this is one I would not have missed for anything!
