Warming, nourishing soup
I keep feeling ever so tired and want to retire to sleep at odd times of the day. Yesterday was particularly bad, but I think the worst is over. Helena has been looking after me so well, despite not feeling too good herself, with bad headaches knocking her sense of well-being.
Last night she cooked a lovely warming cabbage soup, following the recipe from the 'Two Greedy Italians' TV series featuring Antonio Carluccio & Gennaro Contaldo, which we both enjoyed when it was shown recently. It is a very nourishing meal and the liquid subtly flavoured so well by the cheese. She heated some of it up for lunch just now, before she headed off to treat her two new patients at Nailsworth Natural Health Centre.
Bomble had been sitting on a dining-room chair all morning, instead of going straight to lie down on our bed for his daytime sleep. He had spotted the warm sunshine, which allowed him to stretch out comfortably, rather than screwing himself up into a big blob of fur to keep warm. His fur has grown and thickened a lot whilst I was away in London, as he prepared for the onrush of winter. I tried to take some pictures of him in situ, but in the sunlight and with his completely black/brown fur, it was hard to get a good shot.
So my shot of cabbage soup, backlit by the receding sunshine, as the cloud cover comes down is my offering today. It was a Savoy cabbage which we bought at the Bisley Farm Shop yesterday, where we stocked up on a huge bag of fresh, locally grown vegetables for £15, as part of our cost cutting endeavours. The old vegetarian in me is going to be well-indulged in the next few weeks.
