Unveiling of a commemorative window

Today we attended the unveiling of a stained glass window in the Jenny Lind Chapel, in the former Worcester Royal Infirmary, now the City Campus, University of Worcester.

The window commemorates the work of nurses on the site from 1771 to 2002.

Henry Sandon MBE, of Antiques Road show fame did the unveiling honours and Nick Upton, shown in the blip is the artist.

The funds were raised by the Worcester Royal Infirmary Nurses League and a small group of committee members and assorted dignitaries from the University were present for the event. Here

I'm a league member, not a committee member, but as B designed & we manage the League website and membership database, we got an invite!!

When the University took over the site they demolished all the "add on" building that had appeared from the 1900's onwards and retained the original Georgian building. The have now named it the Charles Hasting Building after the Worcester physician who formed the medical society which later became the British Medical Association.

The University produced an interesting document about the building, its history and notable people. Here

We took dozens of pictures today, some excellent ones of the window, but as we are going back tomorrow, I will blip a window picture then.

The open day for league members and the general public is tomorrow. Daughter is coming down and will get a chance to see where her Mum trained, hear the tales of bygone escapades and see the former Wheeley Lea Ward where I had my first ward sisters post many years ago.
