Recycling
I told you a couple of days ago about top priority of safety offshore. But most Safety Departments have different names in this industry. Most of them are called SHE or QESH. Never mind the sequence, you will always find the S,H and E in it. Because they stand for Safety, Health and Environment. And finally the Q stands for Quality. But the S,H and E are the most important. This time it is E´s turn; Environment. Oil Industry is often regarded as polluters and pollution. This is far from reality. With the complete North Sea being designated as a special area, everything is done to achieve a minimum emission and pollution-free work environment. That means that all waste will be collected, separated and brought onshore. Regulations are so strict that on some platforms with large working deck areas, even rainwater on deck is collected and brought ashore. This pictures shows us loading empty reefer containers to be filled onshore with fresh provisions for the ´Hermod´ and full garbage bins to be brought back to Lerwick. With a floating community of 352 persons on board the ´Hermod´, a lot of provisions are needed and a lot of garbage is produced. It is an endless recycling chain.
