Christchurch Cathedral in ruins

Post earthquake we have only been able to see this on television, often with visiting celebrities escorted around the "red zone" which has been the cordoned area where dangerous buildings are being demolished. Finally this week, we, the locals, have been allowed in for the first time down a narrow corridor to partial areas of the square.
It was a wierd very quiet atmosphere for a previously large vibrant city hub. We did not feel terribly emotional as we were well prepared, but others were crying and overwhelmed.
We had just been on the "red zone bus tour" and seen other sites of destruction and demolition. I found it more disorientating than distressing as so much has been cleared and I struggled to figure it all out. A very strange time to live through in history.
