My favorite stencil

This is my favorite stencil in our church... ( we have a church--) called , "Sanctuary Antiques"... Anyway I finally looked the cross up --The Flag of England is the St George's Cross --The red cross appeared as an emblem of England during the Middle Ages and the Crusades (although originally a white cross on red background) and is one of the earliest known emblems representing England.
I had no idea, love this...

But this is slightly confusing....I guess more research is in order??Must go way back??
