Walking in the city
Instead of driving out to the countryside, C and I decide to do a six-mile walk around the city (that's Peterborough). This is the River Nene, which flows through the city with the beautiful cathedral in the background.
I've lived in or near this place for sixty years and there have been many changes - some for better and some not so good. When I was young the population was 60,000 and it was a prosperous market town with heavy manufacturing industries.
Now there are 180,000 people living here, many in new townships, and there's a great shopping mall and the fascinating Ferry Meadows, full of wildlife, lakes and interesting walks and cycleways. And there have been swans on the river for as long as I can remember...
