Kayaking in Abel Tasman
It's a hard life... 2 days kayaking in the Abel Tasman National Park, camping overnight at Mosquito Bay!
We set off from Marahau where our original plan to get a water taxi out and kayak back was altered due to bad weather. After an excellent safety briefing we set out from Marahau beach against big waves and surf to kayak up the coast.
We had the option to camp at any of the grounds for safety reasons. We landed at a beautiful beach and chilled out for a while while we decided whether to tackle the 'Mad Mile' around the headland or leave it for the next day. We decided to go ahead and get it out the way. It was pretty mad!
We were delighted to make it to Anchorage Bay in one piece and we initially planned to camp there. Then we discovered the place was packed with school kids and we got chatting to some water taxi drivers. One of them offered to drop us to Mosquito Bay for free. After a bit of persuading Andy relented and let us catch a ride!
Camping at Mosquito Bay was perfect, our tent was pitched next to the beach. We had full facilities of a long drop toilet and water which needed boiling for 3 mins before we could use it! The setting couldn't have been more perfect and after a hearty tea of pasta and wine we fell into a deep sleep around 8pm!
