When I was living in Maine, USA, I had the opportunity to go with a group of firemen who were all in training in house fires. The local fire department was given a house which the owners wanted to have demolished so they could build something else. The fire department uses these houses for training and then afterwards, cleans up what is left. Great for the Dept. and the owner of the house.
Once all the opportunities for fires have been exhausted, they let the house in totality burn to the ground. Lots of wonderful photo opportunities presented themselves as I was allowed in certain instances to go into the room that was being set on fire and photograph the firemen at work. Then as the house was being burned to the ground, getting lots of images of fire out of control.
My point is that a fire out of control does not start that way usually. It usually starts with an accident, a dropped cigarette, a bit of oil on the stove, frayed wireing or some other simple start. And that is how addictions start as well, one simple innocent decision or mistake or peer pressure etc until it gets out of control.
Thus, this photo of a simple match on fire, the beginning.
