I Saw A Shooting Star Tonight

Honest I saw a shooting star, but I was driving fast to a Martyn Joseph Gig in Settle and so no blipfoto.

When you see a shooting star I can never recall whether you're supposed to make a wish or remember someone.

Linda and I met up with some old friends from Uni days in the wonderful Victoria Hall in Settle and enjoyed a most excellent evening listening to Martyn Joseph - poet, singer, guitarist and campaigner for justice. I remember Martyn from when I was at school. I like him much more now.
One the things tonight that I liked most about him was that he reminded me of the injustice and pain of the closing of the mines in the 1980's. As a son of a miner (my dad and his 9 brothers all worked down the pit in the north east), I will never forget how men, their wives and whole communities were bowed and broken by all of that. He also sang of much that sits along those less lovely things in life - of love, and beauty and hope.

Tonight was a great night of great music and song when I remembered and also made a wish for better things. Thanks Martyn you're a star.
