Ice sculptures

Mags and I encountered these ice sculptures on our walk home from the cinema tonight and were most bemused. I feel we have missed something, does anyone know what these were and why they were on Princes St?! V random.
We thought maybe chess pieces? Although that seems a bit bizarre, perhaps more likely to be wise men or shepheards or something... But why only 2? Had everything else melted? Hmmm...

We'd been to see 50/50 which was excellent, really lovely film, quite understated and touching but v funny too. I don't think there were many dry eyes left in the house by the look of everyone dabbing away with tissues when the lights came up!
