Liquid Art.
The reactions of water, cigarette water, glass cleaner and paprika upon the paint was astonishing on this piece of glass.
Patrick Reyntiens' son gave us a demonstartion of his father's methods of glass painting this morning, at our Uppingham gallery.
It was a fantastic mixture of art and alchemy. This beautiful image was just about to be wiped away. The one next to it had been stunning.
If they are to be kept they are fired at a high temperature until the paint blends with the glass.
We were all sad to see this pool of pigment be wiped away. It had done that strange this which paint does in certain mixes. It produces patterns and seeming life forms, all of it's own.
My friend Natacha produces work with the same dramatic beauty, but on paper, with acrylics. A video camera run over her work makes one think they are looking at a shot of a huge landscape, with rivers. Or under water, with sea creatures, corals, even a pearl.
It is fascinating that pigment and fluid imitates art so beautifully. It seems as though there is a universal pattern in so much around us.
