Earthly Paradise

Returning to Madeira to find beautiful sunshine (with some dramatic clouds), the inevitable friendly welcome, and such glorious warmth. I do think this Portuguese island, nestling off the coast of Africa, is Heaven on earth.

I'm not sure if the media told the rest of the world that this place restored its infrastructure and tourist facilities so quickly from the floods and tragedy of 2010. That wasn't news that sells papers - and it hit the economics of the island severely.

I know it has a reputation for attracting the retired - but there is so much more to Madeira than that. I will try and capture some of the magic over the next few days.
