The Steeple
Illusion dwellers. Things aren't always what they appear to be.
The Steeple at the top of the hill at King Street in Stirling is quite a well known local landmark. It features in a lot of photographs of the city. I hadn't noticed until today that there is a brick wall behind the windows so no fine views can be enjoyed from these vantage points. I guess the local council must have had a good reason to build walls behind the windows but it seems a bit of a shame that the windows are now just for external decoration.
It reminded me of a meeting room I used to visit when I worked in London. It was in one of the UK's largest law firm's old offices near London Wall. A basement meeting room had very plush curtains but when they were pulled back there was no window - just a concrete wall. The law firm was acting for lenders on a very big project and the room seemed to typify negotiations with funders - nothing was ever taken at face value and nothing was ever what it seemed. It made for long, tedious and frictional negotiations. Ahh - happy days (not!) and thankfully all over now.
