Why in horror films, does the attractive girl always run towards the graveyard?

Not that I have ever watched many any horror films. In fact the entire evidence base for the question I have posed above, is the Thriller video!

I still cannot watch Dr Who (far too scary, ruined my childhood) and as for Watership Down. That made me jump right out of my skin.

But surely the most creepy thing on television ever, is that girl and the clown playing noughts and crosses who used to appear on the test screen at night (or after 10 p.m) on BBC channels
