Testing the Waters
Woo Hoo! It got up to 40 degrees F today. It's been quite a few days since we've seen it.
I still got cold at the river, but what a great morning for waterfowl and reflections. I took over 350 shots, and about 10 were pretty good. There were lions and tigers and bears...oh my!!! Actually there were swans, geese, ducks, and sea-gulls. If only I could have tresspassed...the swans would have been really close. But...alas...I didn't want to be shot full of buckshot.
I saw all 4 of the bird types testing the waters. I can't imagine standing on the frozen pond for 30-40 minutes. I have to wear socks to bed when it gets below 50. When it gets below 30...I have to tuck them into my fleece jammies...so my legs don't get cold. I'm thinking about adding 2 more dogs to our sleeping arrangements to have a Three Dog Night. Toasty.
After so much ice-standing, the birds headed to open water. I wonder if it feels warm to them after the ice. I decided to find out. I took off my shoes and socks, and rolled up my pantlegs. I rested my tootsies on the thin sheet of ice for as long as I could. WHEW! THAT'S COLD! I stood up and broke the ice with my heel. WHEW! THAT SMARTS! I ventured out up to my knees. WHEW! THAT'S WARM! It felt like it was about 67 degrees.
Act-u-al-ly...if I would have done that...I'm guessing the water would have been about 33 degrees. What do you think I am...CRAZY???
