To distract the squirrels from the birdfeeders, I have placed a suet treat in a tree, within good stretching distance for a squirrel. It has the desired effect, as he has to work very hard to get at it. The best answer though, is getting out early and throwing a handful of critter mix on the ground. That really keeps the squirel friends occupied.
