Flood
It rained over night.
And it kept on raining all day.
Not piffly, drizzly rain, but heavy, persistent and very wet rain.
Late afternoon I decided to brave the weather with my camera. There's been a massive rock slip along the road into town where a guy was lucky the rock didn't land on him as he drove past, I saw plenty of sewer drains lifted and spewing water (and raw sewerage) into the roads, some roads have been closed, 2 tourists tried to get too close to the river to check things out and ended up havig to climb trees to keep safe. They were eventually rescued by surf rescue (!!).
There were lots of people out braving the weather to catch a glimpse of our poor, sodden town. I chatted to one elderly chap who has lived here since 1956. His verdict? The worst flooding he's ever seen. The radio was calling it a 1-in-20 year event this morning. By mid-afternoon it was heading to be a 1-in-50 year event.
As I write this (late!) it's still raining (although thankfully, not as heavily) and the forecast is predicting it to continue into the afternoon tomorrow. The big problem will come when high tide arrives about 1.30 am .
I think we're heading for a big, messy clean-up when it does finally subside.
If you look closely you can see the house on the other side of the river has sand-bagged the garage, and the picnic table in the foefround is impersonating a submersible water craft!!
