Tivoli Boys Guard was founded in 1844 as an honorary guard watching over Tivoli's finest buildings and monuments on festive occasions.

Through the years several divisions have been added to the Guard: Drums and Fifes, Band, Captain and Colour Guard, Golden Coach, and Artillery form the parade which takes place at Tivoli several times every week.

The uniform - red coat, white trousers and bear skin hat - is almost the same as the one worn by the Queen's Life Guard, the difference being the colour of the trousers. It has been worn by the Tivoli Boys Guard since 1872. The Tivoli Boys Guard consists of about 100 boys between the ages of 9 and 16. The summer the boys turn 16, they resign from the Guard. By then they will have received an extensive musical education. In fact, many of the boys become professional musicians.

Originally, the boys were paid in sandwiches and beer! Today, the boys are rewarded for their efforts by the training they receive. Also, they get to see the world and partake in many important events as the Tivoli Boys Guard is often invited to play in Denmark and abroad for openings of conferences and exhibitions, visits of important people etc.



This was ridiculously difficult to try at night but I missed them on Saturday when they march in the daylight. Sweet as anything, you should see the whole parade (I'll post what I can save at a later date). This might not be the best shot I got but I just loved it after I'd done a little tiny bit of processing.
