...What will your Daddy say......

Merry Christmas Everybody: Slade.

The funeral today, bitterly cold, so cold that you could see your breath inside the Church. Trying to snow at the graveside. Arrived at the hotel for the wake a little early which led to confusion about the food....people eating the cold food, and complaining slightly, without realising there was hot to come.

This is my gorgeous cousin, Sarah and her Dad, Peter. In fact she's not my cousin, her Mum is my cousin, one of 27 that I have, so that makes Sarah my second cousin....or is it first cousin once removed?

Peter was saying exactly what I said last night....first you go to weddings...then Christenings........then 21st birthdays and Silver weddings, maybe a few weddings of the next generation....and then we all end up meeting in black suits and ties for funerals. Considering my Mum and her sister , who we buried today, lived in the same town for most of their lives (the first 20 and the last 50 years) and they worked together and had largely the same group of friends, there were less people there today than at Mum's funeral only two years ago, time catches up with all of us.

As always happens, the day started off sombre, and then as the drink got hold of a few people the laughs started and we all had as good a time as possible.

Journey back home was horrendous, 4 hours to cover just over 100 miles....roadworks, a prang, some f*cking appaling driving, sleet over the Pennines, feeling tired after an awful nights sleep., but when we got home Charlotte came to visit and that brightened the day.

Das vidanya moy padruga.
