Piñata Factory
Immediately adjacent to Plaza Kioto - the traffic circle that directs autos to Playa La Ropa, downtown, or La Comercial - is a collection of blue-tarp structures where hundreds of piñatas are constructed and sold prior to Christmas. It is wondrous to see the many, many piñatas hanging throughout this park-like area. It is even more amazing to see the construction process. Paper cones are attached to clay pots with newspaper (it is just possible to make out the starting of a few on the left edge of this image). Once dry, colorful strips of tissue paper are laboriously wrapped around the form to create the brightly colored finished product. It is a sight to behold for about a month, then everything is packed away until next year.
