Carnivore

I'd thought that our resident member of the Sarraceniaceae family had contracted some sort of lurgy, as its pitchers were looking decidedly tatty. Then I noticed the little dark shapes visible inside the pitchers and recalled that we had suffered an invasion of small black fungus gnats a few months ago. Their numbers were definitely diminishing which I put down to the colder weather and a reduced watering regime.

Now I realise that this little plant has been silently eating them, in such quantities that it has apparently overdosed on nutrients and is suffering from something like indigestion.
