Cycling Lake Kivu
Not a technical photo but a great chance to show me and my fellow Peaks Foundation adventurers. Kathy (left), me, Hallie, and Laura (Peaks Foundation Director), and of course our porter, who is a bit of a celebrity in the area after winning a bike race (he rode the course faster than a taxi can drive it).
This was one of our challenges, a 33km bike ride around Lake Kivu, Rwanda, up and down some serious hills and through small villages. What a wonderful sight seeing women's eyes boggle as a group of women ride bicycles past them. I doubt there re too many groups of women who travel around these parts but what a fantastic day.
Whenever we stopped we were mobbed by children and villagers. It all ended in a small muslim fishing village, where we bundled our bikes into a fishing boat and spent an hour getting back to Gisenyi, and our Paradis Malahide hotel (gorgeous). It poured with rain and we were like drowned rats, but it was fantastic.
