Soggy ducks!!
We visited Granddad in hospital today. He is looking surprisingly well after his fall on Friday. His chest sounds so much better than when we saw him 3 weeks ago.
Unfortunately he slept throughout the hour that we were there!!! (He did the same yesterday when his neighbours visited). At 93 years, he is entitled to an afternoon snooze and it's probably what he does at home. We couldn't stay on later as we had the 4hour return journey home.
We had an update from the staff nurse on his plan of care, he is going to be with them for a few weeks, and a chat to the bloke in the next bed, who had been surprisingly well informed by Granddad about his days in the army in North Africa during the second world!! No problems with his hearing or long term memory.
We did try to waken him, but he was sound asleep. A non-too gentle tweak of his ear lobe didn't make any difference. Any more vigorous action may have been construed as abuse of the elderly, so we waited patiently. Apparently his wide awake chatty times are at breakfast and evening meal. A man who enjoys his food, preferable prepared and cooked by his own fair hand.
To return to the ducks.....the hospital restaurant opens on to a quadrangle and a notice on the door said...
Please do not feed the ducks
The ducks are now being fed a reduced diet to encourage them to fly out.
Please try not to give them any food if they ask.
Many thanks
These clever ducks that can apparently ask to be fed, didn't say a word!!
