Sports Day

When I was at school, sports day consisted of a few races, some jumping, some throwing, and a little chalkboard where the scores for each house would be updated throughout the day.

Nowadays, our school hires the local, international standard athletics complex and the children (aged 9 - 13) compete in events from 60m hurdles to 1500m; from javelin, discus and shot put to triple jump. Meanwhile, two students with a laptop are updating results as they are relayed from the finish line or the events field.

I'm always so impressed with the way the children approach this day in our school calendar. They warm up, do training, have all the techniques down pat. Today was scorchio, and they sweltered all day, yet some still managed to compete in a volleyball game in their lunchtime break! Their behaviour and enthusiasm made me proud to work with such fantastic youngsters.

A good day to be a teacher :):):)
