Pilgrimage to Fountains Abbey.

After all the eating and drinking yesterday it was nice to get out into the open air for a walk! Very mild up to 13c.

Every Boxing Day people walk from Ripon Cathedral to Fountains Abbey, as the Cistercian Monks did on the same day in 1132 to found the Abbey.

There is then a Carol Service led by the Bishop of Ripon and Leeds.

We didn't do the Pilgrimage but joined friends who had, for the carol service, held in the Cellarium of the ruined abbey.We then all went for a walk afterwards.

It was a wonderful experience and one which I hope we will be able to do again next year.
