The lonely sea
I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea's face and a grey dawn breaking.
John Masefield
I made do without a ship. I went to Dungeness to see what was about and arrived as the storm rolled in and the heavens opened. After a few moments sheltering in the car I went into Dave's Hide and watched the gadwalls and shovelers, some cormorants and gulls. As I left and drove down towards the sea there was an egret and a marsh harrier. Then down to the sea (the lonely sea and the sky............ you get the idea). Blustery, breezy, rain-lashed stroll along the prom at Sandgate and then home. I'm making a Lancashire hotpot - I think I deserve it.
