Merganser Morning
Its right stormy here in Carradale today with gusts on the West Coast reported to be over 80 mph. So stormy we lost power at one o'clock and had to prepare dinner by candle light. Fortunately, the lights came back on as we were about to eat, although that meant thoughts of a romantic candlelit dinner were dashed! Never mind at least I can now post my blip for the day!
This was literally a dash out to the front of the house this morning inbetween squally showers! As the sky took on some interesting colours I noticed a group of four Red Breasted Mergansers on the river. They kept diving for food but if this shot is looked at in LARGE some of the Merganser features can just about be seen.
However, on reviewing the four blips I took I much preferred this one, which is a low tide view of the estuary at Waterfoot. I am fascinated by the assortment of early morning colours in the sky, particularly when they are reflected on water. In this blip the shallow tidal water gives a reflection even although it is ruffled by the gale force winds. In the foreground, a stream of water from heavy overnight rain runs through the sand, appearing almost rough like the distant sea.
If looked at in LARGE (and you have good eyesight!) 2 of the Mergansers can just be made out on the extreme right of the river!
