The death pens -Abergavennny market
Before leaving Wales I went along to Abergavenny market this morning and took some photos of lambs on their way to slaughter.
In the background butchers walk between pens deciding which ones they are going to buy.
As a vegetarian I think more people would give up meat if they saw exactly how the meat reached their plate.
Abergavenny market has been held on its current site since 1863 and is a focal point for the surrounding farming commnity.
Background
Abergavenny (Welsh: Y Fenni), meaning Mouth of the River Gavenny, is a market town in Monmouthshire, Wales.
Originally the site of a Roman fort, Gobannium, it became a medieval walled town within the Welsh Marches.
It is located 6 miles (10 km) from the English border.
Abergavenny promotes itself as "the gateway to Wales".
To-night I am back in Stirling, which promotes itself as "the gateway to Scotland".
