The last geocaching day of the year gave me the chance to pull in some local caches that I've ignored for too long. Cache #499 took me to Ratby and the start of the Comet Trail. Built by Robert Stevenson in 1832, the Leicester & Swannington Railway was the first to be opened in the Midlands. The first engine on the line was Comet, drive by Robert's father George.
