Lang may yer lum reek

This very smart bag contained 3 big lumps of coal. In Scotland it is traditional to bring in a lump of coal to your "first foot" - the first folk through your door in the New Year. My coal has never come in such a smart bag before!!!

"Lang may yer lum reek" means - may you always be able to keep your house warm (assuming you have a chimney)!

Probably never more true than now with the economy so fragile....though I do think that in the days when this tradition started, times were VERY much tougher, colder and coal was very valuable.

I love my fire and and so thankful for its heat!
