Pantomime

2years 73days

It's been another fabulous day in the MyGirl Household! We had a friend arrive this morning and we did Christmas gift swapping. I got all the ingredients for a gingerbread latte, result! And other lovely things too. Katie had got hers at Christmas, but still got an extra one for her today. We then all popped out to get some bits for the rest of the day.

After lunch and a couple of jobs at home, Harrison and his mummy came to get us. We all drove to take the children to their first pantomime, Cinderella. Starring the Chuckle Brothers, a pair of characters I grew up with. Katie loves a good occasion and she seemed very aware that today was an "occasion". She was in her pretty dress and coat, a gorgeous headband and best shoes. And she walked tall, smiled at everyone and was bouncing about Harrison's presence.

We were sat near the very front of the dress circle. Both children bounded up the stairs and were quite in awe when they looked out across the theatre. Neither child could hold the seat in place so were wedge with coats. When the lights dimmed, Katie was pretty scared. When the loud booming voice started, she was very scared. But as soon as the curtains lifted and the dancing began, she was enthralled. She waved and clapped at the appropriate moments, danced a little too. She was having a lot of fun! So much so that come the interval, she begged for moremore dancing. The sets were amazing, the dancing superb, and for taking Cinderella to the ball, there were real life miniature ponies! It was fabulous.

I dont normally like the Chuckle Brothers - their bad behaviour on their show and their live performances really grates with me - but in the context of a panto, where they were reined in a little and only on in short bursts, I conceed that they were a little funny. Okay, flipping hilarious. And not too over the top with the "to me, to you" nonsense!

After the pantomime, we all went home; Linda collected her hubby and aiden and everyone came to ours for tea. I'd done a bolognese bake before the show, so chucked that in whilst the kids ran riot for a while. I was quite pleased with dessert - a chocolate and apricot bread and butter pudding made using a chocolate panettoni. I was pleased with myself! Katie was thrilled to bits to have friends the second night in a row and was sad to see everyone leave. She was however placated by the fact that tomorrow, we're off away for three days - we're seeing Lyra and family and are VERY excited!
