Morocco Trip day 6 - Toubkal & Imlil
Firstly we visited the near village of Imlil and met some of the locals who were manly subsistence farmers but with the tourists passing through the area they were also diversifying to try to make ends meet in what was a very poor area.
We then headed south following the river starting on the close by Toubkal which is the tallest Mountain in the Atlas mountains at 13,671 ft. This thing was massive compared to Scottish standards! We visited former farming land which had been obliterated by flash floods and saw boulders that had been pushed by the water that were the size of a block of flats! After walking to the bottom of the mountain and climbing up 12 ft of it we turned round and headed East towards a village off the hiking track to see it. The poverty here was far more blatant and we received a great welcome when we stopped for Peppermint tea in a house. It was great to meet people who were not trying to sell us things but just glad to meet strangers.
We then walked back trough a walnut farm back down to our Casbah and we could tell the weather was changing......
