Birthday party...

Yesterday my dad had a birthday party to celebrate turning 60. This was the first of two parties a weekend apart, and was for family only - a big birthday BBQ bash at the house.

My dad's family all came up to Scotland for it from the south of England - they had all demanded the party in the first place, but my dad's not one for a fuss. So we (my mum, sisters and myself) hosted, and provided lots of lovely food, and organised this cake for my dad as he's a bit of a steam-train and model railway enthusiast. We also gifted him a day's experience as a steam-train driver, which will happen next April. He was very 'chuffed' with this and I think the party was a success.

All the English relatives, however, did not bring a single gift with them. Clearly their honoured company was more than enough...
