Simply Me

Ole lefty

I'd like to introduce you to my left eye. Here it is. It looks pretty normal. It's not normal. Apparently, as Optical Express informed me this afternoon, it is atypical (abnormal).

I used to have perfect eyesight. When I was 17, I started to find it difficult to see bus numbers and the board at the front of my A-level biology class. Since then my eyesight has gotten progressively worse. Now I'm so short-sighted, I wouldn't be able to distinguish your features if you were sat in front of me.

I decided to take the leap and get laser eye surgery to fix this. I was quite excited about the prospect of being able to see unaided. No more contact lenses, allergic reactions, groping around for my glasses in the morning, being able to rub my eyes without my lens popping out or getting stuck in my eyelid. It was going to be magical.

Except, it would appear that because of this atypical left eye, I am not a suitable candidate for laser eye surgery. They showed me my scans, I have an abnormally shaped eyeball which is worryingly thin in parts.

A couple of months ago, said left eye went funny. It became blurry and I couldn't drive. After vigorous tests, and a lot of worrying hushed whispering, my opticians decided I was a migraine sufferer that got the wonky eye part, but not the associated headache. Now I can't help but wonder if there's something further wrong with ole lefty. But who would you consult about that now? I suspect I may need an eye version of House. (If this sounds like you, then please get in touch!)

I'm now feeling a bit down about things, so I'm planning an evening of watching Buffy and eating nice foodstuffs (ie chocolate and cake). For those of you that don't know me, Buffy Summers is my hero. I realise this makes me sound about 8, but it always cheers me up. BTVS has helped me through a lot of difficult moments in my life and it appears you're never too old to watch it.
